It was another June, and another time for graduation. The 2018 graduates have completed their studies and will sail from their alma mater to start a new journey.
On the morning of June 23th, the 2018 graduation ceremony and degree dress award ceremony was held at the Eastern Conference hall of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). University leaders, deans from all the schools, teachers, students, relatives and friends, witnessed this exciting moment together.
Before the ceremony, the original song “Free Starry Sky” and the video “USTC Image” were played in the auditorium. The graduates shared their memories of beautiful campus life. The students’ choir sang “Sky” and “Republican Love”, expressing a deep blessing for our alma mater.
At 9 o'clock, the 2018 graduation ceremony and degree dress award ceremony officially began. University leaders, delegations of teachers and alumnus took their seats on the rostrum. The ceremony was hosted by JIANG Yi, deputy party secretary of the school committee.
With the melody of the school song, the blue school flag lifted by bearers moved slowly to the rostrum, students burst into excited shouts when the flag passing over their heads. They touched the flag and recalled warm memories. Then all the students and faculty stood up and sang the National Anthem of People's Republic of China.
Afterwards, vice president CHEN Chusheng read the school's decision to award the 2018 bachelor's degree and commend all kinds of outstanding graduates.
President BAO Xinhe made a speech at the ceremony. On behalf of all the faculty, he gave congratulations to all the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and bachelor's degree, and gave deep thanks to their teachers, relatives and friends.
President BAO said, in the past four years, students had open and deepen their minds in the process of teaching and learning, infiltrating the scientific spirit in both academic training and innovative practice, and released their youth passion in the rich and colorful community activities, increasing the talent in serving the society. “Today, you have become real Ustcers. I am very proud of you all.”
Life is like a world cup with various miracles. You are the protagonist of the game. As long as there is sunshine in your heart, you have strength at your feet! President BAO said. He hoped that the graduates should carry forward the spirit of the school motto and take the mission of the socialist builders in the new age. He sincerely wished all the students the vast expanse of the sea and the brilliance of the nebula.
Alumni representative and the former director of the inspection and Auditing Bureau of CAS, Professor LI Ding, inculcated graduates in his speech. Graduation is only the beginning of life’s marathon. He shared his experience in studying and working, and encouraged to take this time as a new starting point.
Graduates delegation LU Shuwen, from school of Information Science and Technology, reviewed the details of her study and life, and talked about the gains and feelings of during four years, expressing gratitude to the alma mater, teachers, parents and classmates. She said that she will take the responsibility as an USTCer, and gave her blessing to the alma mater's 60th anniversary. In the end, she wished all the graduates a bright future.
At the ceremony, party secretary SHU Gequn led all graduates to make a pledge.
After the oath, all the graduates stood up and sang the school song The Eternal East Wind with a deep feeling. They shared the good time of four years together.
Later, the graduates boarded the rostrum in succession, university leaders and teachers helped them to turn the tassel one by one.
