Professors of USTC awarded by MOE

    Prior to Teacher’s Day, MOHRSS (Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China) and MOE (Ministry of Education) decided to honor advanced collectives and individuals in national education system in order to further enhance the sense of honor and responsibility. USTC (University of Science and Technology of China) won remarkable awards.

    HNLSCM (Hefei National Laboratory for Science at the Microscale) was commended advanced collectives. Prof. TIAN Zhigang and Prof. AN Hong won the ‘Model Teacher in Anhui’ award. Prof. GE Xuewu was honored advanced individual.

    Oriented to the frontier of science and the main demand of the nation, HNLSCM  focuses on innovative fields including future information, new energy and life health. Its work covers the basis and application of material systems at microscale. Over the last decade, HNLSCM has won first prize of national natural science award twice and second prize ten times. Eleven of its achievements have been nominated annual events or major development by authorities like AIP (American Institute of Physics), EPS (European Physics Society), Nature and Science. Around 9700 papers have been published, among which 227 were published in Nature, Science or their series.

    As an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the head of the innovation group of Yangtze River Project, the head of major national science and technology project and the chief scientist of the 957 Project, Prof. TIAN Zhigang has been working on immunology over three decades and teaching for twenty years. He initiated the "trinity" curriculum system and realized three-phase teaching model that combined theory, skill and output together. Placing premium on all-round education and cultivation of scientific research ability, he guides 99 postgraduates in total.

    AN hong is a professor from College of Computer Science and Technology, a key member in Research Group on Computer System Ability Training, a member in National High-performance Computing Committee, and a member of Computer Architecture Committee of China Computer Federation. In vanguard of CA (Computer Architecture) field, Prof. AN and her group conducted a series of reformation in education, ranging from the reformation in computer elite class to cultivation of interdisciplinary talents in high-performance computing.

    Prof. GE Huawu also enjoys high reputation in his field. In his teaching life, he was respectively appointed executive deputy director of department of chemistry, secretary of the party committee, and deputy dean in department of chemistry and material. In terms of administration, he fully implements the party's educational policy, carries out the fundamental mission of strengthening morality education, devotes himself to the party's educational cause, and makes constant innovations. With the joint effort of the leading group, department of chemistry makes strides in pedagogy, research and talent introduction.

On May 11, the Nature Publishing Group released Nature Publishing Index 2010 China, remarking “a dramatic rise in the quality of research being published by China”. University of Science and Technology of China is ranked 3rd of TOP 10 Institutions in Index 2010 China.
