WAN Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC and Chairman of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology, attended the Congress and delivered a speech.
Assistant President of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Professor FU Yao of the college of Chemistry and Materials Science, professor CHEN Yu'ao, professor LU Chaoyang and professor GAO Minrui of the National Research Center for Microscale Material Science, and professor ZHU Shu of the College of Life Sciences were elected as the new council members. Among them, FU Yao and CHEN Yu'ao were elected as vice presidents. According to the statistics of the Alumni Association of USTC, 17 alumni of USTC were elected as new council members, and two alumni, LI Xuelong and CHEN Yunji, were also elected as vice presidents.
WAN Gang pointed out at the conference that general secretary XI Jinping attached great importance to and showed great concern for the growth and development of young scientists and technologists, and sent special messages to them on many occasions. Young scientists and technologists in the new era should thoroughly study and implement the important expositions of the XI Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially on scientific and technological innovation, cultivate patriotic feelings. Young scientists and technologists should be practitioners of serving the country scientifically, based on the post, to be a climber of independent innovation, focus on innovation-driven, do results transformation, be a innovation and entrepreneurship pioneer, promote the spirit of science and be a disseminator of innovative culture. He hoped that under the guidance of the Central Committee of the Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation, the Chinese association of young scientists and technologists would better fulfill its fundamental responsibility of uniting young scientists and technicians for the Party, better play its organizational advantages, better play its functions of serving the country and society, and serve as a bridge and link between the Party and the government to connect young scientists and technologists.
The conference deliberated and adopted the work report made by academician LI Ruxin, vice president of the fifth Chinese association of young scientists and technologists, and the Constitution (Amendment) of the Chinese association of young scientists and technologists, and elected a new council. After the meeting, WU Gang was elected president of the sixth Chinese association of young scientists and technologists, and ZHANG Hongwen and other 17 people were elected vice presidents. According to the statistics of the Alumni Association of USTC, in the new council, 17 of them are alumni of USTC.
The Chinese association of young scientists and technologists, founded in 1993, was a professional mass organization composed of young scientists and technologists with high prestige, influence and popularity at home and abroad. It consisted of local and industrial youth science and technology organizations and some overseas students organizations. It was a non-profit social organization with independent legal personality approved and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Accepting the professional guidance of the Central Committee of the League was the bridge and link between the Communist Youth League and young scientific and technological workers. Its basic task was to carry out academic exchanges, activate academic ideas and improve academic level, to commend, reward, publicize and recommend outstanding young scientific and technological workers, so as to provide services and create an atmosphere for the growth and success of young scientific and technological workers. It was to reflect the aspirations of young scientists and technicians and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests. It was to organize young scientists and technicians to participate in the practice of scientific and technological innovation, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces, and contribute to the implementation of the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and the construction of a well-off society in an all-round way.
