Inheriting and Sharing Good Books Together—USTC Library Held April Online Reading Salon

  • [2020-05-15]

During the epidemic, which coincided with the International Reading Day, a series of online reading salon activities organized by USTC Youth League Committee, USTC Library and the volunteer team of the students’ association were held as scheduled. The event was conducted using online video and online interactive communication.

The online reading salon was divided into 4 sessions, each of which contained 15 USTCers. Each session had two classmates acting as hosts and recommended two books. The recommended books all came from the classic reading bibliography—Fortress Besieged, Little Prince, Corner of the Earth, Slow Cooking Life, Solve Grocery Shop, Moon and Six Pence.

In order to ensure the borrowing needs of teachers and students in the campus during the epidemic, USTC library provided a wealth of digital copies of the collection, thus ensuring the smooth progress of the online reading salon activities. The reading list of the activity came from the digital copy of the collection provided by the library. The hosts of each show downloaded a digital copy of the required collection in the electronic resource library, and sent it to the participating students.

The activities of the reading salon were rich and diverse, and were composed of reading wonderful clips, talent performances, hand-made and other links. The hosts of each session would arrange different styles of reading for the participants to experience. The students could actively speak and actively express their own reading thoughts. Some students reviewed their experiences and shared the setbacks and gains; some students used the book as a mentor to help them reflect on their words and deeds; some students carefully read the inspirational stories in the book and encouraged others. Reading had become a communication bridge to the soul, and the screen had not made the feelings of the students far away thanks to the heart-to-heart communication. With each salon close to the end, students would invariably recommend the next list.

Reading is a covenant between the soul and the collision of wisdom. Books are nutritional products all over the world. Reading a good book can get a cleansing of the soul. Let us benefit and experience from reading, and grow oneself from reading.
