On September 4th, a group of outstanding students came to the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) after experiencing a special college entrance examination held during the COVID-19 pandemic, begining their new journey.
Party secretary SHU Gequn, president BAO Xinhe, vice president ZHU Changfei and WANG Xiaoping, chief accountant HUANG Sufang and other leaders went to the registration sites in east, west and central campus to visit the freshmen in the morning. In addition to sending their regards to the staffs and volunteers, they emphasized that in the meantime of preventing and controlling the epidemic, the registration process and the resumption of classes should be well organized.
SHU Gequn showed his appreciation for volunteers’ hard work and reminded them to enhance self-protection consciousness. BAO Xinhe had a cordial conversation with the parents of the freshmen. ZHU Changfei inquired about the current process of registration and reminded the staff to protect the privacy of poverty students. The leaders also inspected the accommodation of the freshmen and encouraged them to study hard.
In order to reduce the gathering of people, freshmen were asked to register at the east or west campus according to which department they belong. Only after having their admission notice, health QR codes, and body temperature verified can they enter the campus. Nearly a hundred volunteers were recruited to help the freshmen on their first day of college.
The freshmen can either scan the QR code using WeChat to check the registration process or go to the check-in point of each department and scan the barcode of the notice. A well-designed registration route was provided by the Department of Student Affairs. Under the help of the staff, students can register efficiently instead of going back and forth.
Different departments cooperated together and adopted various measures to provide a safe and humanized service. Freshmen lined up outside the east auditorium with a distance of one meter each person, and a designated person was responsible for the regular sterilization. Different check-in points, such as the payment channel, green channel, were all in order. The number of students who were in the different status of the registration process was scrolled in real-time on a large screen.
In addition, free mung bean soup was provided by the catering service group for the students, campus hospital prepared virus prevention kits, security department set up signs on the campuses, school buses shuttled students between campuses, and a variety of study materials were also provided.
Parents meetings will be held online, and a series of activities such as entrance examination, mental health assessment, enrollment education, physical examination, military training, and the opening ceremony will be carried out between September 5 and September 20.
