  • "Better USTC, Better Life" [2014-01-02]
    Chinese and foreign students of USTC, some of their supervisors, Chinese language teachers, foreign students and teachers from other universities, and leaders of the USTC graduate school, Communist Youth League and International Cooperation Committee were gathered at the International Conference Hall on the East Campus on the evening of Dec 27th and spent a memorable night in celebration of the New Year.
  • Three Alumni Win Tan Kah Kee Science and Young Scientist Awards [2013-12-24]
    The 2014 Tan Kah Kee Science and Young Scientist Award were revealed on Dec, 16th in Beijing with three USTC alumni listed in. They were LIU Lei, LI Xuelong and SHEN Baogen. The awarding ceremony will be held in June, 2014. The Tan Kah Kee Science and Young Scientist Award are named after the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese Mr. Tan Kah Kee who has made remarkable contributions to the development of China's science and education.
  • TWO USTC Professors Inducted as CAS News Member [2013-12-21]
    A group of 62 elite Chinese and foreign scientists were formally inducted as members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at a ceremony on Dec. 20th in Beijing. Two USTC professors, ZHAO Zhengguo and Xie Yi belonged to the 53 new Chinese honorees.
  • LincRNA-p21 Found as a Novel Key Player in Regulation of Warburg Effect [2013-12-16]
    Recently, the research group led by Prof. WU Mian and Prof. MEI Yide at Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale (HFNL) and School of Life Sciences, USTC has revealed a novel mechanism whereby lincRNA-p21 regulates the Warburg effect under hypoxic conditions. The paper entitled "Reciprocal regulation of HIF-1α and lincRNA-p21 modulates the Warburg effect" has been published online on the renowned international journal Molecular Cell (Molecular Cell doi:10.1016/j.molcel.2013.
  • Best Paper Award on IEEE GLOBECOM 2013 [2013-12-13]
    Prof. ZHU Zuqing’s group received a Best Paper Award at the 2013 IEEE Global Communications Conference (IEEE GLOBECOM 2013) held at Atlanta, USA, on Dec 11. The paper, entitled with“Design Integrated RSA for Multicast in Elastic Optical Networks with a Layered Approach”, features the first author and corresponding author from the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST), which is also the first unit of the piece.
  • China-South Korea Workshop on Fusion Reactor Design Held in USTC [2013-12-06]
    ​The first workshop on fusion reactor design between China and South Korea held in the School of Nuclear Science and Technology, Nov 26-27, 2013. Experts and scholars from the Korea Fusion Research Center, led by Dr. Keeman Kim, the coordinator of cooperation by Korea side, attended this workshop, as well as some experts and students from University of Science and Technology of China, Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southwestern Institute of Physics etc.

  • New models and Strategies to Estimate State of Charge (SOC) of Lithium-ion Battery [2013-12-04]
    New breakthrough in estimation of State of Charge (SOC) of lithium-ion battery has been achieved by Prof. CHEN Zonghai, from School of Information Science and Technology. His research project, "Key Technology and System of Energy Management for Renewable Energy Vehicles", receives the attention from International Energy and Environment Sector, which helps him become a nominee of the ENI award. Now, this award is still in review.
  • Pits Confined in Ultrathin Cerium (IV) Oxide for Understanding Catalytic Centers in Carbon Monoxide Oxidation [2013-12-04]
    Prof. XIE Yi’s group from Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale (HFNL) achieved new progress in the field of atomically-thin two-dimensional nanosheets. The researchers reported the synthesis of freestanding 3-atomically-thin CeO2 sheets with ca. 20% surface pits occupancy via an "ultrafast open space transformation" strategy and also investigated the semi-quantifying relationship of model-structure-performance in CO catalytic oxidation, opening the door for designing
  • Two USTC Alumni Elected IEEE Fellows [2013-11-29]
    On Nov. 26th, two USTC alumni, JIANG Xicheng and ZHOU Shengli were elected as IEEE Fellows. IEEE, which is short for The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. With their election, there are now 36 USTC alumni in its over 6700 Fellows.
  • Atomic-scale Structure Analysis of Single Nuclear Spin Clusters using Magnetic Resonance [2013-11-28]
    Prof. DU Jiangfeng's group, USTC with their collaborators recently succeeds in sensing and atomic-scale analysis of single nuclear spin clusters in diamond at room temperature via quantum interferometer. This work was advanced online published in journal Nature Physics on Nov. 24.[Nature Physics, AOP: 24 Nov. 2013, DOI: 10.1038/NPHYS2814].

    At present, KEXING Cup for the first group stage has been successfully finished. WATER and WHAT from the school of physical science are smoothly into the knockout stages. WATER, as the defending champion of the KEXING Cup, performed calmly and stably in the whole game and won all group matches. On May 11, the Nature Publishing Group released Nature Publishing Index 2010 China, remarking “a dramatic rise in the quality of research being published by China”. University of Science and Technology of China is ranked 3rd of TOP 10 Institutions in Index 2010 China.
