School of Physical Sciences

The School of Physical Sciences consists of the departments of Physics, Modern Physics, and Astronomy & Applied Physics; all are original departments of USTC, founded in 1958. The goal of the School is to produce leading scientists in fundamental and interdisciplinary physical sciences, specialists in applied physical sciences, and experts in research and development.

The School contains four Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) key laboratories and two provincial key laboratories. A number of our graduates are leading figures in international research. The School's collaborations with international counterparts encourage frequent visiting scholar opportunities.

At present (2009), the School has 232 members of faculty and staff, including 88 full professors and 60 associate professors. Six are CAS Academicians and 37 are winners of prestigious Chinese national science awards.
