USTC Excel in National Competition of Physics Experiment for College Students

    Four USTCers won one gold and two silver medals, at the Fourth National Competition of Physics Experiment for College Students held in Nanjing University from July 12th to 15th.

    The contest was hosted by the Joint Committee of National Experimental Teaching Demonstrating Center for Colleges of Ministry of Education, and co-organized by the National Experimental Physics Educational Seminar for Colleges. It’s the biggest national event in physics experiment for college students.

    218 students from 56 different colleges participated in the competition. To get ready for the competition, WANG Zhongping and TAO Xiaoping, mentors from USTC physics experiment center has made detailed plans in advance and selected excellent students. DAI Rucheng, ZHAO Wei, ZHU Wei, ZHAO Xia and other young teachers have participated actively in researching and training. Through scientific guidance, four competitors achieved an outstanding performance. GAO Wanpeng won the first prize of the basic experiment in Group A; LIU Haoyu won the second prize of basic experiment in Group B; KANG Yuan and ZHU Zhenyu won the second prize of comprehensive experiment in Group C as a team.

    As a member of the Joint Committee of Physics, USTC physics experiment center once held the first and second National Competition of Physics Experiment for College Students, which had great affection to the reform of physical education in USTC.

On May 11, the Nature Publishing Group released Nature Publishing Index 2010 China, remarking “a dramatic rise in the quality of research being published by China”. University of Science and Technology of China is ranked 3rd of TOP 10 Institutions in Index 2010 China.
