More than 200 scientists and experts from across the world gathered in Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, on April 14 for the 2nd Mozi Forum.
Jointly initiated by the municipal government and the Hefei-based University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the forum brought together 200-plus participants from the US, Canada, Australia, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and China. They discussed cutting-edge research, innovation-driven development, talent cultivation and university development.
Liu Ming, researcher of the Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of College of Microelectronics of the USTC, Bian Xiuwu, head of the Institute of Pathology of the Army Medical University, and Chen Xianhui, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of physics of the USTC, delivered speeches at the event.
Sub-forums were also staged covering maths, physics, chemistry and interdisciplines.
Named after Mozi, a Chinese ancient philosopher and scientist, the forum aims to offer a top platform for exchanges among young scientists home and abroad who are committed to academic research and care about the development of China and the future of human kind, said Bao Xinhe, president of the USTC.
Bao wanted more talented people to know the university through this forum and to join it.

On May 11, the Nature Publishing Group released Nature Publishing Index 2010 China, remarking “a dramatic rise in the quality of research being published by China”. University of Science and Technology of China is ranked 3rd of TOP 10 Institutions in Index 2010 China.
