USTC takes High Position in 2010 World University Rankings

    1.The Times Higher Education 2010 World University Ranking

    USTC was ranked no.2 in Chinese Mainland and 49th in the world in the 2010-11 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, announced September 16, 2010. 

    The ranking are based on a new set of methodologies used by THE, which has ended its partnership with its former data supplier QS and has signed an agreement with Thomson Reuters. 

    The rankings use 13 performance indicators combined under five broad categories: "Citations - research influence", "Teaching - the learning environment", "Research - volume, income and reputation", "International mix - staff and students" and "Industry income - innovation".

    2.the World's Best Universities: Top 400 - US News and World Report

    USTC took the place of 3rd in Chinese Mainland and 50th in the world in Natural and Physicial Science by US News and World Report .

    U.S News & World Report's World's Best Universities rankings, based on the QS World University Rankings, focus on the factors of university faculties and administrators etc.

    3.Academic Ranking of World Universities ARWU

    USTC was ranked no.4 in Chinese Mainland in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, released Aug 15, 2010. 

    The initial purpose of ARWU was to find the global standing of Chinese top universities. Universities are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in Nature and Science, papers indexed in major citation indices, and the per capita academic performance of an institution.

On May 11, the Nature Publishing Group released Nature Publishing Index 2010 China, remarking “a dramatic rise in the quality of research being published by China”. University of Science and Technology of China is ranked 3rd of TOP 10 Institutions in Index 2010 China.
