On Oct 26th, the 2019 Annual Conference of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology (CSHST) opened at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The conference was undertaken by the Department for the History of Science and Scientific Archaeology of the USTC. More than 500 experts and scholars from universities and research institutions all over the country attended the opening ceremony and the report meeting.

The ceremony was presided over by Pro. GUAN Zengjian, vice chairman of the CSHST. SHU Gequn, secretary of the Party Committee of USTC, first gave a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer, USTC. He pointed out that the USTC has a natural connection with the CSHST. When the society was founded in 1980, academician QIAN Linzhao, then vice president of the USTC, served as the first president of the society. This time the meeting coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department for the History of Science and Scientific Archaeology of USTC. It is hoped that the academic colleagues will jointly promote the progress of science and technology history discipline of USTC and the cause of science and technology history of China.

Pro. LIU Dun, former chairman of the International Union of History of Science, winner of the 2019 Koyré Medal, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the USTC, and Distinguished Professor of the Department of Science History of Tsinghua University, reviewed the development of the history of science and technology in China，and pointed out that the discipline of Chinese science and technology history is at a stage of vigorous development.

Dr. Efthymios Nicolaidis, lifelong secretary of the International Academy of the History of Science, pointed out that the international influence of Chinese history of science is increasing. As this year's Koyré Medal was won by Pro. LIU, a Chinese scholar, the CSHST can achieve more brilliant achievements in the future.

Pro. WAN Fubin of Guangxi University for Nationalities said in his speech that many domestic first-class universities have set up science and technology history discipline, marking the arrival of the spring of Chinese science and technology history.

SUN Xiaochun, President of the CSHST, on behalf of the society, thanked USTC for its careful preparation. He said that the special sessions, the number of participants and papers in this conference exceeded that in the past, and Pro. WAN's "spring of Chinese science and technology history" has indeed arrived.

The annual conference opened on the morning of the 26th and closed on the afternoon of the 27th for two days. There were two reports of the annual conference and 19 sub venues including the history of astronomy, physics, and mathematics, with more than 300 experts and scholars presenting papers. It is the largest academic feast in the field of science and technology history in China.

The academic annual conference system of the CSHST was formally established in 2017 and is held once a year. The first two were held at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University.
