On Nov 7th, the second “Living in China” National Finals and the awarding ceremony for the 2018 events were held at Beijing University of Technology. The national first and third prizes in this essay competition were won by USTCers. They were Tasneem Akhtar, a Pakistani Ph.D. student from year 2016, belongs to School of Life Sciences, and Vithiyapathy Purushothaman, an Indian Ph.D. student from year 2017, School of Humanities and Social Science. Moreover, our university won the “Excellent Organization Award” for the 2nd Essay Competition for International Students.

Tasneem Akhtar tells her wonderful study experience in China and sincerely wrote golden words in her essay named “China, Here’s my deep love”. She won the first prize in more than 800 essays and make USTCers feel proud. When interviewed by China Net, she said affectionately “China, my love; USTC, my love.”

In Vithiyapathy Purushothaman’s essay “The Visible and Invisible Glory of China”, he rationally analyzed China’s significant role in safeguarding and maintaining “peace” and promoting development globally in every aspect, which was published in the People’s Daily Overseas Edition.

In 2018, a series of events centered on the outstanding achievements during the “Reform and Open-up” in the past 40 years, were organized by the Ministry of Education in China, which were very popular with international students. It’s a great honor and cheerful moment for USTC that our International Students got superb grades in the national speech and essay competition. Besides this, while participating in wide varieties of Chinese cultural activities, the International students know more about China. It shows their deep love and core hearted affection for China.
