At the spot, we interview 4 of the 34 awardees.
"USTC spirit is freedom in my eyes. Though GPA is highly emphasized here, many of my classmates have prepared themselves specifically for their intended careers. Some want to be white collars or professionals, they internship at workplaces. Some want to be entrepreneurs, so they initiate their own programs. Others, me included, have studied very hard to lay solid foundation for future research. ”CHEN Yi, a graduating senior from the Management School, says. And for himself, to pursue his academic dream, he has maintained study habits like, reviewing every other day and extending learning after class voluntarily. He will further his study in Northwestern University.
"Girls discussing science at dining table are not odd here. And I freely transferred from the Management School to the School of Earth and Space Science to study physics and find my interested field. ” YANG Shuo, a smiling girl tells. And she loves to sit at the first row where she has more opportunities to interact with the professors and the professors would adjust the pace of lecturing based on her facial expressions. Miss Yang will go to study at California Institute of Technology.
"I am very playful. After idling in the freshman year, I gradually realize how significant study is for one’s development. Then I started to routinely reflect and rethink the lessons, my study methods and my lifestyle. So I am kind of learning after doing and luckily it is not too late.” WEI Zhiyuan, from the School of Engineering Science, talks. He likes to work hard when he is in shape and play hard when he is not. And he thinks everyone should learn to manage his or her own time. For the future, he believes that one should considers national development when choosing and he will further study at Tsinghua University.
"I find out how ignorant I am in USTC. I always have a dream of grasping the truth in one area. In high school I thought I would accomplish my dream soon and felt very arrogant. At USTC, teachers can always enlighten me in teaching, behaving and researching. And they present the essence and frontier of a subject clearly and inspiringly. I feel very lucky to develop my own idea about academic in the short four years. And now I know my dream requires me to spend my whole life to pursue her.” says ZOU Yijian. He suggests, one should knock the knowledge with heart when reviewing and try to build his or her own logic. The next station toward his dream is Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada.
"Dear younger USTCers, USTC is a place of freedom, and you are twigs in April with so many possibilities, please dare to try and exert to thrive! My best wish goes to you as well as to myself. Long as the road, it would be full of miracles and discoveries. ”WANG Ruoshui, from the School of Gifted Young, speaks at a video of the 34 scholarship winners, though absent from the ceremony. She will continue to study at Cornell University.
Have you got some clues about how these young men and women excel? Let’s wish them all the best.
