The 2020 Beijing data opening innovative application competition to fight against covid-19 ushered in the online award party on 28th June, which was co-sponsored by Beijing bureau of Economy and Information and CCF Big Data Expert Committee. Ms. LIU Xiumei, vice director of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended this online award party and extended her best wishes for the success of this competition.

Guided by the two directors from Anhui Key Laboratory of Big data Analysis and Application, Prof. CHEN Enhong and Prof. QI Liu, graduate students from Department of Computer Science and Department of Big Data of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) constituted two teams to take part in the competition. The solutions to major public health emergencies leaded by the student YU Runlong from “USTC Inventor Workshop” and Predictions of Crowd density in Key Areas leaded by the student LI Shuangli from “F-Valverde” got the champion among various competitive proposals and algorithms submissions.
This competition attracted 5525 global teams and 23290 submissions to assist in the pandemic control and economic recovery, and promote data opening of The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality as well as absorb top social resources in big data industry.

At the present, fighting against Covid-19 is still the common challenge for the whole world. As president XI Jinping has stressed to encourage big data, AI and cloud computation to play a better role in pandemic monitoring analysis and trace, prevention and control, as well as resources allocations, The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality has contributed in the prevention and control of Covid-19 pandemic within the combination of technology and people’s demand, and highlighted the importance for talents cultivation in the fields of big data and AI.
