Academician YU Shuhong from University of Science and Technology of China won the Second National Medal for Innovation. 2020 is the second year of the innovation award. It is planned to award 10 medal teams and 300 certificate individuals, including 30 medal individuals.

After the National Natural Science Award, the National Technology Invention Award and the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Medal for Innovation is another major science and technology award approved by the state, which is next to the highest science and technology award of the state. The award mainly recognizes outstanding scientific and technological workers and research teams who have made outstanding contributions in scientific research, technological development, major equipment and engineering research, transformation and entrepreneurship, science popularization and social services, and have influence at home and abroad.

YU Shuhong has been engaged in inorganic synthetic chemistry research for a long time, adheres to original research and actively promotes the transformation and application of scientific research achievements. In recent years, he has established the synthetic method of artificial biomimetic synthesis of mother of pearl, artificial wood and other multi-level structural materials, explained its growth mechanism, found a new way of cross-scale synthesis of inorganic biomimetic materials, and made outstanding achievements in the field of inorganic chemistry.
