On October 31st, 2020 “Bravo, Youth!” badminton competition of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) kicked off at the West Campus. The competition are aimed at letting the freshmen experience the sports atmosphere of USTC.
The competition was divided into four parts: men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles and mixed doubles. This year, nearly 100 players registered to participate and each match consisted of the best of three games.
It began with the men's singles, which featured seven rounds of matches. Every candidate has shown his own unique skill, with some players scoring by smashing on the sideline, some by a surprising move at the net, and others by solid defense. In the final round, WANG Yizhuo and WANG Yan gave us a high-level performance with their excellent skills and strong physiques. Unfortunately, Wang Yan had a cramp in his right calf, and Wang Yizhuo, despite the ongoing match, stopped to do muscle recovery for him. With the unanimous consent of the students and teachers, the championship was awarded to both of them.
The men's doubles competition was also exciting. There were a total of 20 teams participating in the men's doubles, with 6 rounds of matches. Finally the international team students Safir and Abudullah won the men's doubles championship.
As for the women's singles, six players played four rounds of matches. After a fierce competition, LI Mingyue, the previous champion, successfully defended her title.
In the last mixed doubles matchwhich includedfour rounds, with seven groups of players registered. In the end, the team of LI Mingyue and YUAN Yuehui got the first place.
At end of the competition, YANG Zhiwei, deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee, presented certificates of honor to the winners. He encouraged the students to continue physical training, actively participate in the sports events, and make greater contributions to a youthful and energetic campus sports culture.
Through the friendly competition between students in different grades, it arouse the enthusiasm of freshmen to exercise and showed the vigor and vitality of USTCers.
