On MSOM Business Meeting scheduled online at 5:00 am on 9th November, Beijing time by INFORMS, the world’s largest management science association, Prof. YU Yugang from School of Management of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) delivered the speech for 2021 MSOM Global Data-driven Research Competition and released information of the competition data towards the global scholars.
As the new era of big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence approaching, managing, sharing and reutilize the data has stood in the limelight for the global academic research.
Taking advantage of Internet of Things and other emerging technologies, Qingdao RiRriShun, co-organizer of the competition, focuses on the logistic internet of cloud warehouse and cloud distribution among bulky home appliances, and provides all-round professional service on delivery, installation and after-sale. RiRiShun aims to share the logistic big data for global scholars to exploit the potential value through research and innovation, and thus to contribute to cost decreasing and benefits increasing for enterprises.
During the introduction of competition data, Prof. YU Yugang briefly illustrated the new management ideas and scientific problems embraced in the data set, and vividly presented them to the global scholars who were interested in data-driven research. He then put forward advice on recognizing, analyzing, and utilizing the data better.

This competition would enhance the reputation of School of Management of USTC among INFORMS and other scholars in top management fields. A large quantity of data, based on a logistics ecosystem shared by Qingdao RiRiShun Logistics, has fused with unique management ideas from Haier and RiRiShun, and embraced numerous scientific issues against the background of new technology and the new business mode, expecting to get research achievements with great influence in the near future.
The competition was initiated by Prof. YU Yugang and Associate Prof. GUO Xiaolong from USTC, WANG Yanmei, the manager of Management Department in Haier, ZHANG Zhentai, the chief architect of IT Department from Qingdao RiRiShun Logistics, and Prof. Gad Allon from Wharton School.
Prof. David Simchi-Levi, the chief editor of Management Science, together with Prof. John Birge and Prof. Chris Tang, the chief editors in Operations Research and Manufacturing &Service Operations Management separately, also took part in this meeting.
