Aimed to raise awareness of fire safety and improve emergency response capability, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) carried out evacuation drills for freshmen at the auditorium of east campus on the morning of September 12, 2020, soon after their enrollment.
Students entered the hall in batches and adopted chequerboard-type seating pattern to maintain social distancing. LING Hui, member of USTC Youth League Committee, introduced the evacuation plan and points need attention to all the students and staff.
Students exited swiftly and gathered at the safety zone in order when the fire alarm rang. Later, instructors called roll to make sure everyone made it outside safely.

It costed 1'49" and 1'52" for students to evacuate in two drills. The whole process of evacuation and check out endured 4'35" and 5'06" respectively.
Campus evacuation drills, designed to familiarize students with evacuation procedures and improve their safety awareness and rescue skills, have been conducted over ten years as an important part of enrollment education for freshmen.
