Though the pandemic has prevented offline gatherings, it shows no trend of diminishing the eagerness of University of Science and Technology (USTC) to seek talents. USTC takes advantage of cloud preaching and cloud communication to attract talents and conduct academic activities online, characterized by the successful online fifth Micius Forum on March 13th this year.
SHU Gequn from the University first expressed sincere welcome to young talents at home and abroad. Founded in 1958 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and had entered the list of 16 key universities in the second year after its founding, USTC "is like a Wutong tree," said SHU, "regarded as the tree par excellence, favored by the phoenix when it wishes to alight."
LUO Yunfeng from Hefei Municipality also expressed warm congratulations to the successful opening of the fifth Micius Forum and a warm welcome to the young scholars attending the forum. LUO introduced Hefei as a city with rapid development, strong "science and education", industrial advantages and ecological environment for living and business, which is considered as an "open" city with superior location.
JIANG Yi from the University naoted that USTC has always adhered to the concept of "talents are the first resource" and carries forward the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education. The research-oriented environment which focuses on personal development and research achievement is always valued by the University.
The Micius Forum includes the North America session and Eurasia session this year. In North America session, Professor Nikolaos Freris shared his comments and feelings when working in China. Deans from School of Chemistry and Material Science, Life Sciences and Engineering Science made introduction on behalf of respective schools, covering staff, research direction and past achievements. In the Eurasia session, Prof. WANG Yucai shared his experience of working in China and his true feelings of personal development.
More than 30 leaders and staff from the personnel department of provincial and municipal key enterprises and institutions attended the forum. This time, the forum was jointly held by USTC and Anhui Province, with 12 major enterprises and institutions in the province and city level participated.
