On the afternoon of April 23rd, 2021 “GUO Moruo Scholarship” award ceremony was held on East Campus in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

President BAO Xinhe, heads of relevant departments, winners of the 39th and 40th Guo Moruo Scholarships, as well as their teachers, parents and relatives attended the award ceremony. JIANG Yi, deputy party secretary of the university committee, hosted the ceremony.

At first, President BAO Xinhe made a speech at the ceremony. He congratulated the winners and welcomed the parents and teachers who came from afar. Citing success stories of the 33rd “GUO Moruo Scholarship” winner CAO Yuan, and 1993 alumni CUI Yi, he stressed the importance of keen interest and persistent efforts. He hoped that USTCers could follow their lead and with the boldness of a newborn calf, be innovative and vigorous to make a difference in their own fields.

President BAO said that at the critical moment of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, USTCers, as the youths of the new era, should remain true to original aspirations and share the common fate of the country. He encouraged all the students to purse excellence without fear of hardship and difficulty and be a “willing ox” of the new era.

Next, TANG Ming, the first winner of GUO Moruo Scholarship, FENG Anbao, President of Hefei No.1 Middle School, WU Qing, Deputy President of the High School Affiliated to South China Normal University gave some speeches in turn.

TANG Ming said that each generation has its own mission and “GUO Moruo Scholarship” is not only an honor but also a responsibility. FENG Anbao said in his speech that Hefei No.1 middle School has a deep relationship with USTC. So far, 32 students of Hefei No.1 middle School have won the “GUO Moruo Scholarship”. WU Qing expressed his sincere thanks to USTC. He hoped that the students would make persistent efforts and become leaders in their respective fields.

Finally, President Bao Xinhe presented award certificates to the Guo Moruo scholarship winners and presidents of the winning students’ middle school. Then, he took photos with the award-winning students, their parents and teacher representatives.

GUO Moruo Scholarship is an exclusive scholarship established by GUO Moruo, the first president of USTC. A total of 1010 students have received this award. They have made remarkable achievements in the fields of scientific research, education, management, finance, IT, etc.
