On the afternoon of November 17, the premiere of the self-made English sitcom USTCers Go Global (first season) was held at Youth Home at the Central Campus of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prof. ZENG Changgan, chief of the Undergraduate Education Office, hosted the ceremony. USTC administrators, professors, and staff from the Undergraduate Education Office and Office of International Cooperation were invited to witness it together.

USTCers Go Global English sitcoms (first season)
Along with fantastic dancing, singing, and cross-talk show, the ceremony announced its start. Prof. ZENG delivered an opening speech, which underlined the significance of English learning and practicing. With its global vision, the University is focusing on pursuing the establishment of a world-class university, thus providing students with numerous opportunities for exchanges, further education, and even employment. USTCers Go Global is conducive to enhancing English communicating skills since the series is close to life and induces students to learn through playing. He also expressed thanks to those who wrote, directed, acted, and videoed the English sitcom and determined to make continuous efforts to make it better.

Fantastic warm-up shows
Waves of laughing and warm applause aroused as teachers and students were deeply absorbed in watching. Guided by the host, the total of 50 students made active interactions with each other and shared their views and experience, and they were also encouraged to search for actors who have been involved in the sitcoms. At last, the actors shared their feelings and expressed gratitude to all of the participants.
Later, teachers with abundant experience living abroad and undergraduates who participated in short-term exchanges were invited to have a round-table discussion. They shared unique perspectives in terms of language learning, academic study, and further education in the international context. LI Weiping and LIU Qian, the two teachers put forward a series of suggestions on students’ growth and encouraged them to be daring to practice so as to lay a solid foundation and be well-prepared for the future.

The ceremony came to a successful completion with a group photo taken for memory. Students all made high comments on the sitcom, saying that it is an excellent learning resource that helps them know more about overseas’ life and make suitable plans accordingly. In addition, they were looking forward to taking part in the video shooting of the second and third session, and at the same time, expecting more outcomes of USTC-made English sitcoms in days to come.

The first season is based on the real experience of studying abroad, which makes a vivid presentation of their daily life. It is designed to provide English communication learning texts for students to enhance their abilities to speak and communicate in an enjoyable way. The sitcom is co-produced by the Undergraduate Education Office and English Practice Center of the University.
