On November 17th, the premiere of the microfilm The Spring of Science and the unveiling of the exhibition commemorating the 130th anniversary of the birth of GUO Moruo was held in the students’ activity center on the east campus of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). SHU Gequn, secretary of the USTC Party Committee, and LIU Jing, president of the Anhui branch of Xinhua News Agency, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. CHEN Lvsheng, former deputy director of the National Museum of China, representatives of teachers and students and other guests also attended the ceremony.

Prof. SHU addressed that this year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of GUO Moruo, an outstanding revolutionary, scientist and scholar who served as the president of USTC for 20 years. USTC organized a series of commemorative activities such as shooting microfilms, holding exhibitions, publishing anthologies and setting up a memorial room for the respected president.

LIU Jing noted that in March 1978, GUO delivered his famous speech The Spring of Science at the National Science Conference in Beijing. The microfilm The Spring of Science, starting from the event that GUO joined the Party, told of the significant contributions to the establishment of USTC by the elder generation of scientists represented by GUO.

The Spring of Science was premiered on site and released simultaneously to the whole country by various new media channels of Xinhua News Agency. The microfilm, which took half a year to complete, was in honor of the efforts made by the elder generation of scientists and revealed how they established USTC, as well as dedicated themselves to achieving more in science and technology.

Afterward, SHU and CHEN jointly unveiled the exhibition for the 130th anniversary of Guo's birth in the museum of the USTC on the six floor of the center. All the participants then toured the exhibition together.
