On the brisk morning of October 27th, the long-anticipated annual Students’ Sports Meeting of the University of Science and Technology (USTC) was held at the East Campus Stadium.
Vice Principle WANG Xiaoping, Deputy Secretary of the USTC Party Committee DENG Jiansong, members of the School Sports Committee, all athletes and referees attended the opening ceremony, which was hosted by WANG Yong, the head of the Physical Education Center.
In the sound of passionate music, the national flag guards escorted the national flag and school’s flag into the stadium, announcing the beginning of this year’s Students’ Sports Meeting.

Following the flags, representatives of each department and national laboratory marched forward in neat alignment. Dressed in color representing their department, the student representatives delivered radiating performances by shouting creative slogans and presenting unique formations, pushing the atmosphere to a climax.

After more than a month of training, the squad composed of freshmen girls presented a ribbon dance performance. Colorful ribbons flying in their hands, vividly imitating the movement of a dragon. Dragon dancing is a traditional folk sport in our country with a history of more than 2000 years. Their wonderful performances showed the spirit of unity and perseverance of USTCers.

Secretary DENG Jiansong, delivered the opening speech. He first welcome all attendees of the opening ceremony and expressed gratitude to all the staff organizing this sports meeting. DENG pointed out that our school has attached great importance to the physical education of students, aiming to cultivate students with comprehensive development. Thanks to the joint effort of our School and the Physical Education Center, the excellency rate of students’ physical health test in our school is increasing year by year. After DENG’s speech, students who had excellent performance in the 2022 National College Students' Physical Health Test was awarded with honorary certificates.

Then, referee representative SUN Lulu and athlete representative CHEN Ting, made vows to respect and follow the sporting spirit. Finally, Vice Principle WANG Xiaoping announced the opening of the 2023 USTC students’ sports meeting.
This sports meeting is great chance for students to display the spirit of competition and enhance cooperation abilities. Let’s hope the athletes break new records in this year’s sports meeting.
