On the morning of October 27th, the book launch of Chinese Dictionary-Physical Chemistry Code was held at University of Science and Technology (USTC).

The series of Physical and Chemical Code is divided into 3 volumes, 9 parts, total 15 million words as Physical Code, Chemistry Code, Zhongxi Huitong Code, by the professors from the Department of Science and Technology from USTC. Prof. JIN Zhengyao is the editor-in-chief. LI Zhichao and HU Huakai are the deputy editors of the book series. It took 12 years to finish the book by examining and compiling a large number of vast literatures and unearthed cultural relics from ancient times to the end of Qing Dynasty (1911). The book was finally published by Shandong Education Publishing House.

At the meeting, experts and scholars affirmed the academic innovation value of the Chinese Dictionary- Physical and Chemical Code. JIANG Yi, deputy secretary of the school party committee, evaluated the book as the first major systematic and comprehensive compilation of the historical materials of traditional physics and ancient books of ancient chemistry. It is one of the basic projects of the inheritance of ancient Chinese science and technology cultural heritage. The study of physics and chemistry, in-depth exploration of valuable traditional material science and cultural heritage, and the correct assessment of the historical impact of modern Western science have laid a solid foundation for the literature.

After the launch, an academic seminar was held, during which experts in-depth stressed the significance of publishing such a set of ancient books sorting books to the history of human science under highly developed digital technology.

JIN Zhengyao, professor of the Science and Technology Archaeology Laboratory of the College of Humanities proposed that Mr. REN Jiyu, the chief editor of the Chinese Dictionary, said at several conferences that the significance of the whole work lies in the fact that with the economic take-off, the era of Chinese national culture rejuvenation will inevitably come.

It is understood that the publication of the Chinese Dictionary is such a large-scale academic project that requires long-term, large amount of manpower and material resources to ensure the significant cultural accumulation value. Since the 20th, Chinese Dictionary-Physical and Chemical Code is for the first time that the academic community has classified the modern science discipline system and modern books, and compiled it in a book-like manner. The comprehensive combing, compilation and publication of the heritage are the basic projects of the ancient Chinese scientific and technological civilization.

On the basis of retaining the characteristics of the ancient Chinese science and technology ancient books, it uses the concepts and methods of modern natural sciences, adopts a combination of the scriptures as the vertical, the latitude as the horizontal, the warp and the weft, from ancient times to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1911). Chinese literature, excavated cultural relics, concepts, knowledge, Chinese and Western exchanges, and scientific and technological achievements were systematically organized, classified, compiled, and verified. This is the foundation of the new round of "new liberal arts" in the school of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a fruitful achievement with the historical value and a gift for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The compilation of the Physical and Chemical Code is not only a home-based inventory of ancient material science heritage, but also an objective basis for the discussion of major academic issues such as physics or chemistry in ancient China. In terms of architecture and paradigm, scholars hope that this Chinese Dictionary-Physical and Chemical Code will contribute to the writing of Chinese physics and chemistry history in the future.
