“FLTRP·ETIC Cup” English Writing Contest was held in Beijing on December 7th-9th. 91 contestants stand out from more than 210,000 participants across the country. YANG Guangmingmei, a freshman from the School of Mathematics of USTC, entered the national finals as a special award contestant of Anhui Province. She won the third prize in the national finals with the help of her tutor WANG Tao from the department of foreign language. Prof. ZHANG Guangqian also provided specific suggestions in the preparation phase.

English writing skills require a combination of language skills, communicative skills, critical thinking, and creative thinking. The competition focus on contestants’ knowledge, the field of vision, depth of thought, innovative spirit and humanistic quality.

And as such, the English Course Group of the foreign language department will further improve the training system and selection mechanism in the future, to help our students to exert their abilities and breakthrough themselves. Meanwhile, through organizing the competitions, teachers will continue to improve the level of college English teaching and hope to raise the overall English level of students in USTC.
