On Dec 11th in Washington D.C., for the first time, “Mineral and Rock Physics Early Career Award” was presented to a young scientist from China . Prof MAO Zhu from School of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). She has done an absolutely marvelous research work in the field of Mineral and Rock Physics. Around the world only 10 young scientists who have received their Ph.D. (final degree) within 10 years get this excellent award, and MAO is one of them.
MAO’s mainly work on physical properties of mineral substance. Her experimental results are combined with seismological observations and geodynamic simulations to determine or identify the material composition and structure of the mantle and the core, understand the transport of substance within the Earth, and to reveal the formation and evolution of the Earth.
Prof. MAO, a proud scientist, who was selected into Young overseas high-level talents introduction plan in 2012 and was founded by The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2015, has published more than 50 papers in famous academic journals so far.
