On the morning of Sept 1st, USTC 2018 undergraduate students opening ceremony was held in the auditorium of the east campus. BAI Chunli, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Party Secretary, attended the opening ceremony and was appointed as the honorary president of USTC.
The opening ceremony began at 9:30, the flag-bearers holding a large school flag of USTC slowly moved from the behind of the auditorium to the podium, and the scene burst into excited cheers when the school flag flew past the head of the students.
Then, all teachers and students stood up and sang the national anthem of the People's Republic of China.
BAO Xinhe, President of USTC, said in the past 60 years the story of the “USTCers” has always been brilliant. In the future, the USTC expects students to write their own stories and continue to make brilliant achievements.

Then, SHU Gequn, the Party Secretary of USTC, presented the honorary president appointment letter to BAI on behalf of the university.

BAI gave the First Class in University for 2018 freshmen. He said, as an alumnus of USTC, he was very pleased and proud to be the honorary president of his alma mater. On behalf of all the teachers and students of the USTC, he expressed the warmest welcome and congratulations to the 2018 freshmen and the best regards to the parents and teachers of the students.

PAN Jianwei, Vice President of USTC, said the 60th anniversary of USTC marks a new journey and a new starting point. Our school has started the construction of new engineering, new medicine and national laboratory of quantum information science, and continue to meet the country's strategic need at the new starting point.

CHEN Zheng, a 2018 graduate from the School of Information Science and Technology, and HE Siqi, a 2018 undergraduate from the School of Management, shared their learning experiences and ambitions as representatives of senior students and freshmen.

At last, all teachers and students stood up and sang the USTC’s school song——Eternal East Wind. Amid the soaring melodies, the opening ceremony for 2018 undergraduates came to a successful end.
