USTC Hosts 2017 Langmuir Symposium
Date:2017-10-04
  • [2017-10-04]
On September 22nd, 2017 Langmuir Symposium was held at the first floor lecture hall of National Laboratory Building in the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), hosted by Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale.

Francoise Winnik, editor-in-chief from University of Montreal, together with Senior Editors, ZHANG Xi from Tsinghua University and YU Shuhong from USTC organized the event.

As the leading journal of materials, Langmuir focuses its attentions on the interface-related structure and function. As a result, the symposium consists of six featured topics, namely ” Chemistry on Interfaces”, ” Supramolecular Chemotherapy”, ”Self-Assembly of Novel Oligomeric Surfactants and Their Unique Performances in Aqueous Solution”, “Engineering Hydrogels from the Simple Chemicals”, “Ion Specificities of Macromolecules” and ”Macroscopic Nanoparticle Assemblies: An Emerging Material System”.

In the morning of September 22, Prof. YU Shuhong presided over the opening ceremony. Then, the first presentation was given by Francoise Winnik on the progress and technologies of interfacial chemistry, such as self-assembly in soft matter and application of Si nanoparticles.

Prof. ZHANG gave the second presentation entitled “Supramolecular Chemotherapy”. He mentioned the potentials of classic supramolecule: cucurbit[n]urils and strategies to deal with the cancer problem.

The following report focused on the behaviors of oligomeric surfactants, like Ab-based Gemini Surfactant, which was described by Prof. WANG Yilin from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science.

In the afternoon, Prof. HAO Jingcheng and Prof. LIU Guangming, both from USTC, brought the lecture on the breakthrough of hydrogel synthesis and the Ion Specificities of Macromolecules, respectively.

Finally, Prof. YU introduced macroscopic assembly of nanoparticles, especially on the synthetic nacre.

During coffee break, many experts and scholars expressed their interests in nano-scale interfaces and exchanged their experience in relative fields.

The Symposium attracted the top chemical scientists from worldwide and will hopefully improve both fundamental and technological innovations in the field of interfaces.
