On Saturday, July 15, the closing ceremony of 2017 Future Chemist and Biologist International Summer Camp(FCISC) was held. Undergraduates from 17 world top universities, including University of Cambridge and Johns Hopkins University gathered in the Academic Lecture Hall of Building of Environmental Resources.Prof. LI Qunxiang, Vice Dean of the Department of Chemical Physics and Prof. Drew Parsons, Director of Australian New Colombo Plan Mobility Project, also attended.

During the 2-week camp, a variety of activities were held varying from academic lectures, research internship, field trip to Chinese traditional culture lectures and so forth.
More than 10 outstanding professors from Harvard University, UCLA, School of Chemistry and Materials Science and School of Life Science of USTC gave frontier academic reports in the first week. Scholars explained profound theories in simple words, which impressed and interested campers a lot. While enjoying reports, campers visited environment and resource building in east campus, medical center in middle campus and laboratories of School of Life and Science in west campus. Then, campers can chose laboratories for a one-week research practice based on their research background and interests.
Meanwhile, there were also various Chinese cultural class including the folk music appreciation, Chinese learning, tea ceremony and Chinese Kung Fu class etc. Campers visited the Anhui Museum, Anhui Geological Museum and the world natural heritage Xidi Hongcun. They experience the traditional Chinese culture in a vivid way.

At the closing ceremony of FCISC, all the campers expressed their understanding of science and shared their dreams and goals. They presented their colorful and splendid research experiences and summer camp activities in the forms of words, pictures, audios and videos .Their enthusiasm and affection to the camp found an echo with everyone present and arouse a long-lasting warm applause. After the four hours’ report, Dr. Dew Parson and Prof. LI Qunxiang awarded honorary certification to excellent campers and volunteers. Those who excelled in the camp were honored “Excellent Camper” and “Excellent Volunteers”. With tailored academic and cultural activities, FCISC will surely serve as a solid platform for those students who decided to dedicate themselves to chemical studies and research.
The 2017 FCISC, the 3rd since 2015, was organized by School of Chemistry and Material Sciences, School of Life Sciences, Office of Undergraduate Education and Office of International Cooperation from July 3 to 16.
