Qiu Shi Future Forum: Quantum Revolution: the Modern Physics Apocalypse
Date:2015-09-20
  • [2015-09-20]
Qiu Shi future forum, entitled Quantum Revolution: the Modern Physics Apocalypse was held after the ceremony in the evening on Sep. 19th. Distinguished guests from quantum informatics fields and technology giants were involved in the forum.

At first Prof. PAN Jianwei, Deputy President of USTC gave a vivid overview of the quantum revolution and its promising applications. He began with the development of relativity theory and quantum mechanics and their impacts on society, and then presented some bottlenecks nowadays such as information security issue. The magic superposition and entanglement properties in quantum physics, which can be employed to build quantum computer or realize absolutely safe communication, may provide us solutions to these difficult problems. Then he introduced the exciting development of commercial quantum communication in China and future plan.

DU Jiangfeng, Deputy Dean of School of Physical Sciences of USTC, share the his achievement about sensing and atomic-scale structure analysis of single nuclear-spin clusters in diamond.

XIE Xincheng, Dean of School of Physics of Peking University, talked about topological quantum computing from basic concept to newest frontier.

As an ending on the theory of quantum physics, XUE Qikun, Deputy President of Tsinghua, summed up the quantum teleportation, quantum computing. Those cutting edge theory seems so attractive in his talking.

WANG Jian, CTO of Alibaba Company shared his thoughts on computing power nowadays. According to him the energy consuming of modern computing is too huge and increasing so rapidly that it’s beyond our affordability to stick to present technology. He really looked forward to quantum computer which can boost our power, and predicted that one day our computers may directly connect to our brain and body.

After the presentations these experts actively interacted with the audience and answered some of their questions. Participants enjoyed the warm atmosphere during the forum.
