The 3rd International Symposium on Flame-Retardant Materials & Technologieswas successfully held at Hefei, China, Jun, 17-19. This conference was organized by Chinese Flame Retardant Society, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Sichuan University.
Prof. CHEN Chusheng, the vice president of USTC, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech to all representatives attending the conference. He also gave a brief introduction to the university and expressed his hope for the success of the conference. Prof. HU Yuan, the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, presided over the open ceremony of conference.
The participants were from China, USA, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Poland, Russia, Belgium, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. There are 120 submissions which were presented on this conference, including 14 invited lectures, 42 oral presentations and 63 posters. The symposium focuses on the frontier of flame retardant materials and technologies, and their commercial application. The topics cover fire behavior of composites, fibres, textiles and bio-based polymers, current research progress in nanoscience and synergy, regulation and standardization in fire testing, fire protective coating. In the perspective of environmental pollution and toxicity issues, fire toxicity and smoke production has been a hot topic on this conference.
During the conference, the delegates visited the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science in USTC and they were impressed by the progress of laboratory construction and research.
In order to encourage graduate students and young researchers to participate in academic exchanges, the organizing committee issued the excellent academic Poster Award during the conference.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, Prof. Yuan Hu summarized that through this symposium, bridge of communication between academia and industry has been enhanced. He hopedto strengthen cooperation and promote the further development of technology of flame retardant materials and technology.
