Society Of Exploration Geophysicists(SEG) and Chinese Geophysical Society jointly held the SEG Student Challenge Bowl of Chinese area during the International Geophysical Conference in Beijing.
Ten universities attended the Challenge Bowl throughout the country. Jiang Hao and Zhang Chao, both majored in Geophysics from the School of Earth and Space Science, were on behalf of the USTC and won the Championship of Chinese area after three rounds of konckout match. Jiang and Zhang will attend the international finals of SEG Student Challenge Bowl as representative of China during this October in Denver, USA.
This is the second time for USTC students to win the Chinese championship, last time was in 2012, Jide Ogunbo, the international student from the School of Earth and Space Science, USTC formed a team with Rall Walsh from Stanford, and they won the Chinese championship of the SEG Student Challenge Bowl during the joint summer campus of Stanford-USTC-MIT that year, and their team were ranked 3rd in the subsequent international finals which was held in Las Vegas, USA.
The SEG Student Challenge Bowl is a geophysical knowledge preemptive answering game sponsored by the SEG. SEG established eight competition area worldwidely, and the eight champions of every individual area will participate in the international finals in Denver, USA this year.
