On Feb 27th, Prof. Michael Walsh and Doctor MA YunXing from ITER organization visited School of Nuclear Science and Technology (SNST) of USTC. Prof. WAN YuanXi and Prof. LIU WanDong, Deans of SNST and School of Physics attended the conference hosted by Prof. YE MinYou.

Prof. Michael Walsh gave a talk with the topic 'Fusion: ITER and Plasma Diagnostics', aiming at young scientists and students. He introduced the development of ITER, including construction experiences, developing plan and diagnostic systems. He explained the principles of diagnostics, recent development and roadmap of ITER diagnostic systems.
Doctor MA YunXing's talk focused on the research method of magnetic diagnostics with a title of 'ITER’s Local Magnetic Diagnostics'. He introduced the principle, development and implementation of Magnetic Diagnostics in ITER.

Professor Michael Walsh, director of ITER diagnostic team, got his bachelor and master degrees in University College Cork, and PhD degree in Culham Laboratory. He has worked for ITER since 2003, with rich experience in JET and MAST facilities. Doctor MA YunXing, graduated from Gifted Young Class in USTC at 19 years old, now working in ITER as a post doctor after getting his PhD degree in MIT.
