The first workshop on fusion reactor design between China and South Korea held in the School of Nuclear Science and Technology, Nov 26-27, 2013. Experts and scholars from the Korea Fusion Research Center, led by Dr. Keeman Kim, the coordinator of cooperation by Korea side, attended this workshop, as well as some experts and students from University of Science and Technology of China, Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southwestern Institute of Physics etc. Academician WAN Yuanxi, the leader of the National Magnetic Confinement Fusion Reactor Overall Design Team, met South Korean experts, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation for realizing the peaceful application of fusion energy, and hoping the cooperation between China and Korea would be fruitful.
During the two-days workshop, both sides conducted a series of reports about the the design of the Chinese Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) and the Korean reactor DEMO. All these cooperative projects are conducive to receive abundant progress in the fusion field for both sides. Meanwhile, China and South Korea both sides expressed the hope to strengthen the cooperation in fusion reactor design and the research and development of the other key engineering technology, and reached an agreement on further cooperation, hoping collaborative innovation and common development.
This workshop aimed to implement the consensus, which is reached by the first meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee of China-Korea bilateral cooperation in nuclear fusion in July 11-12, 2013. Due to the future fusion reactor design belonging to the areas of bilateral cooperation between China and Korea, Prof. YE Minyou and Dr. Keeman Kim, the coordinators of cooperation in this field, both agreed to hold the first workshop on fusion reactor design between China and South Korea in USTC. As agreement, it will be held in rotation in China and Korea, the second, will be in Korea.
The Implement Agreement of China-Korea Nuclear Fusion Cooperation was signed by the Chinese Minister WAN Gang and the Korean Minister LI Zhouhao in Beijing at the end of 2011, aimed at strengthening the bilateral cooperation of China-Korea in the magnetic confinement fusion and related fields, promoting the joint implementation of ITER plan and the development of Asian nuclear fusion energy research.
