Intercontinental Class during the Cloud Semester

    In order to keep up with the teaching progress of the students who are unable to return to university, USTC started the online teaching in late February. After overcoming the difficulties, the foreign teachers of USTC giving intercontinental classes online.

    Prof. Antonio, from the National Institute of Nuclear Physics of Italy, has been an international visiting professor of ATLAS research group in the Department of Modern Physics of USTC since 2019. Because of the epidemic, Toni took online classes at his home in Rome. For him, who is nearly 70 years old, online teaching is a new thing that needs a lot of energy. Toni said that as long as the students can learn something, his hard work would not be in vain. Toni said: “Chinese people has shown great strength of cohesion and perseverance in the face of COVID-19 and USTC is a very outstanding university with the most outstanding students in the world. The epidemic will pass, and the Great China will develop rapidly!”

    Foreign teachers all over the world teaching oral English Online

    Oral English online teaching is a very challenging task. Due to the epidemic, many foreign teachers cannot return to China on schedule. They are all over Ireland, Australia, the United States and other countries in the world. After receiving the online teaching task, they overcame the difficulties brought by the network and time difference, and devoted themselves to the online classroom with full enthusiasm. The English Practice Center (EPC) has nearly 2,400 students this semester, and the total class hours completed by the students would be more than 3,000.

    Foreign teachers expressed their determination to fight the epidemic together

    Prof. Zachary J Smith, who chose to stay in China during the epidemic to overcome difficulties with the Chinese people, and he hopes that all scientists with professional knowledge in the world would provide active help for China's anti epidemic war. He said that the unprecedented unity and firm perseverance shown by the Chinese people in this difficult time impressed the world.

    Michel Chipot, an international visiting professor and academician of the European Academy of Sciences, said: “when I arrived at USTC last autumn, the campus was full of vitality, so it's hard for me to imagine what it looks like now. However, I am also very excited to see that Chinese people are united in fighting against the COVID-19. I am very concerned about all of you: my dear colleagues, students and friends.”

    Murray Wayne Sherk, an EPC teacher and the winner of Yellow Mountain Friendship Award in Anhui Province, donated 275 masks and other anti-epidemic supplies to USTC. “It’s the happiest thing for me to have the best students in China and be able to teach them knowledge,” Murray said, “For China, a great country, education represents the future. We will eventually defeat the virus, and even the epidemic will not stop education!”
