On the morning of November 6th, the annual Sports Meeting of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) opened at the East Campus Stadium.
The opening ceremony of the Sports Meeting
The national flag guards kicked off the entry ceremony for athletes by escorting the national flag and the school flag across the rostrum. Subsequently, representatives from all departments, national (key) laboratories, administrative units, and the affiliated hospital entered the venue with their respective propaganda slogans, which were to display their spirits.
The banner of the School of Earth and Space Sciences
The team of the School of Earth and Space Sciences held up the banner “Subject to the stars, down to earth, working together, and creating success”. The team of the School of Life Sciences displayed the slogan of “Life and Medicine: ambitious, courage and glory”.

The team from the School of Management shouted out “School of Management: smart work sweeping the field”. The School of Public Affairs team held the slogan “Public Affairs goes forward”. The joint team of the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory and the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology displayed the slogan of “User first, and with professionalism, openness, enterprising and academic democracy”. The State Key Laboratory of Fire Science demonstrated, “No one understands fire better than me”.

It’s worth mentioning that the International College’s representative team, composed of nearly a hundred international students, held the banner of “Embrace a youthful world in USTC” and shouted out “I love China, I love USTC” in standard Mandarin, exhibiting the emerging international education of USTC.

The representative team of the faculty also showed their vigor. For example, the teachers of the logistics shouted out “USTC is my home, my service for everyone”, and the representative team of the First Affiliated Hospital held the banner of “To be the health guardian, in fight against the epidemic”. Besides, the retired teachers also participated in the opening ceremony.
The finale of the sports-culture-display square showed the youth and energy of the campus students.
This annual Sports Meeting contained 18 events including sprinting, long-distance running, high jump, long jump, shot put, etc. Nearly 2000 teachers and students, from 38 teams of different schools, departments, research institutions, and affiliated agencies participated in the sports meeting.
Some athletes in the games
A highlight was that, on the morning of November 7th in the women’s 3,000 meters, CHEN Ting, a student from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science broke the school sports meeting record with the score of 11 minutes 51.74 seconds. This was the second time breaking school record after KONG Liren, a student also from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, broke the record with 12 minutes 3.02 seconds in 2018. Prior to the 2018, the event record had been maintained for 32 years.
The Sports Meeting ended on the evening of November 7th. It not only demonstrated the sports competitive spirit, but also promoted the fitness exercises of students, teachers and employees, and inspired their pursuit of faster, higher and stronger.
Pay tribute to all the referees, athletes, team leaders, student volunteers and other staff who contributed to the sports meeting.
