The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released The annual report on science communication of China(2022) and held a press in the China Science Publishing and Media Ltd (CSPM) on 10 February, 2023. This report is compiled by the Research Center of Science Communication and published by the CSPM, all affiliated with CAS.
The panel discussion and launch was attended by 30 prominent experts and scholars from the domestic communication industry, including GUO Chuanjie, Council Chairman of the Research Center of Science Communication of the CAS, academician LIU Jiaqi, ZHOU Dejin, Director of the Bureau of Science Communication of the CAS and YANG Yongfeng, Deputy Director of the Academic Divisions of the CAS. The conference was hosted by TANG Shukun, Director of the Research Center of Science Communication of the CAS.
The Annual report on science communication of China (2022) provides a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of science communication in China in terms of newspapers, science journals, books, radio, television, films, the Internet, exhibitions, science popularization activities, science education, science communication policies and science communication theories, and is constructive for the development of science communication in China. The editorial board of the report is headed by GUO Chuanjie, Council Chairman of the Research Center of Science Communication of the CAS, academician BAO Xinhe, President of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and academician ZHOU Zhonghe. A number of professors and experts from USTC played an essential role in the compilation of the report as members of the editorial board.
Experts at the conference put forward a series of recommendations, including increasing the selection of the top ten annual communication cases and hotspot analysis, improving the data support for the annual report on the science communication of China, moderately adding content related to controversial science popularization, increasing the dissemination of the report itself, and further forming policy recommendations geared towards the needs of the Party and the state in decision-making based on the report.
Director ZHOU Dejin summarized the seminar and the launch: the two reports for year 2021 and 2022 have achieved the goal of creating an annual summary of the situation in this field in China from scratch. As the competent body of the Research Center of Science Communication, we have to summarize, reflect on and study the report and constantly adjust and improve its positioning and content framework.
CHU Jianxun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the USTC, ZHOU Rongting, LIANG Yan and YUAN Lanfeng, Deputy Directors of the Research Center of Science Communication of the CAS, and HE Yong, Director of the Office of the Research Center of Science Communication, attended the symposium. Many national mainstream media, including Science and Technology Daily, China News Service and People's Daily, attended the conference and gave timely and extensive publicity to the symposium and the release of the annual report on science communication of China(2022).
