On July 9th, the 24th session of the Science Café China series was successfully held on the East Campus. The event was jointly hosted by the Library of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Science/AAAS. Under the theme of “Quantum Interconnection—From Long-distance Quantum Networks to Underwater Sensing,” the session attracted wide participation from researchers and young scholars both from within and outside the university.

The event was presided over by Dr. LIU Shoupeng. During the report session, Prof. BAO Xiaohui delivered a presentation titled “Long-distance Entanglement between Quantum Memories”, explaining the basic principles of cold-atom quantum repeaters. Then, Prof. SHENG Chong presented a report titled “Quantum Optical Enhanced Underwater Sensors for Integrated Communication and Ranging,” detailing the team’s latest results in underwater acousto-optic information conversion and integrated sensing. After that, Dr. LIU Shoupeng gave a special presentation on the positioning, disciplinary scope, submission process, and review standards of Science and its sister journals. He also provided targeted guidance on improving paper writing and standardizing academic publications.

By leveraging the global academic brand influence of Science/AAAS with USTC’s disciplinary strengths in the field of quantum information, this session established a vital platform for faculty and students to engage with experts from world-renowned publishing institutions and frontier scholars. The event not only broadened the academic horizons of the researchers but also provided beneficial guidance for young scholars in publishing high-quality academic achievements.
