As the cradle of scientists in China, USTC focuses on exploring new frontiers in science, nurturing young talents with global perspectives, and keeping open arms for diligent researchers all over the world. Now the University is home to 16,245 gifted students and 2,050 dedicated faculty members, and offers customizable programs and exceptional extracurricular activities to all the students. We create opportunities and inspire students to achieve their goals. We aspire to build characters and virtuesandmotivate our future scientists to reach for more. Labs are open to all students regardless of their major. The Special Class for the Gifted Young has cultivated many outstanding young talents. Each year, the University admits only 1,860 new students, but for every 1,000 alumni, there is one academician and more than 700 who go on to take master's or doctoral degrees, ratios far beyond any other Chinese university.

USTC has a glorious history in fundamental sciences studies. In recent years, we also made significant achievements in the fields of quantum communication, quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), engineering and medical science. We built a Comprehensive National Science Center and the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Physics. We sent Mozi, the Quantum Science Satellite, and Wukong, the Dark Matter Particle Explorer, into the space. In 2020, we developed the "USTC Plan" to treat COVID-19 patients. We hope to make contributions to the world using the state-of-art technologies and the brain power of our academic community.

USTC provides a wide range of opportunities to help students develop a global perspective and cultural sensitivity. It has collaborated with more than 210 top universities and research organizations all over the world and actively participated in international cooperation. Faculty members collaborate with research partners around the world on a variety of international projects. All of the undergraduates enjoy the opportunities to be sponsored to study or do research at a university overseas. We believe the international exchange can be eye-opening on many levels. Students are encouraged to gain a more profound understanding of the world, the leader they can be, and the impact they can create. USTC is also known as one of the best universities and has earned its world reputation. In the Nature Index 2020, USTC was ranked Top 4 on academic in the global universities and Top 1 in China.
