On the evening of September 9th, a concert of piano trios of classical film music was held at the Eastern Conference hall of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), performed by the pianist LU Chao, violinist Arina Zelenina and cellist Anna Prokhorova from Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Nearly two thousand teachers and students enjoyed this audiovisual feast.

The concert began with the familiar Fantasy on the theme Moscow Nights, which was introduced to China in the late 1950s and had integrated in lives of generations. Next came First youth, Love Theme and Cinema Paradiso, calling up memories of the film Cinema Paradiso. The following was Merry Go Round of life from the film Howl's Moving Castle. Slowly changing from gentle to cheerful, this song left the audience with endless aftertast. Music from the film Fiddler on the Roof demonstrated the timeless themes: tradition and revolution, love and youth, family and expectation. Furthermore, music from The Phantom of the Opera showed the tragic conflict between beauty and ugliness, life and death.

The concert programme also included classical music from The Raiders March, The legend of 1900, Welcome to Jurassic Park, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and so on. Among them, the symbolic music of Harry Potter —Hedwig’s Theme was highly recognized and well received with its grand melody.

During the concert, the music and the film clips displayed brought out the best in each other, offering unparalleled experience to the audience. This high-quality concert promotes the fusion of science and art, and strengthens the artistic atmosphere on campus.
