On Oct 31st, Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) released the "the statistical results of China's scientific and technological paper of 2016". According to the report, the publication of SCI papers by USTC gains momentum, and the papers are maintaining high quality. In addition, the number of cited times per paper is high.
USTC takes a great share in outstanding scientific and technical papers worldwide. In the statistical period,  the paper is cited 15.08 times each in average, which is far higher than the world average value of 11.8. USTC has kept leading the C9 Colleges for 7 years in this area. Since surpassing the world average level for the first time in 2003, USTC maintains rapid growth in the publication of SCI papers. The number of SCI outstanding scientific papers with the first signatories was 54.9%, and the proportion ranked the third among C9 universities.

The number of SCI paper keeps increasing in USTC. In 2016, 4848 SCI papers were published, of which 2784 were first signatories. This number increased by 7.1% compared to 2015.

The quality of the paper remains excellent. In the SCI paper published by USTC in 2016, 1529 were outstanding scientific papers, increasing by 385 than last year; five academic papers were published in the four major journals of the world (Science, Nature, Cell and PNAS), ranking 6th in national colleges; 712 papers were published in the journals whose impact factor rank first 10%, 344 more than last year, ranking 6th in the national universities. What’s more, three papers were selected as "China’s 100 most influential international academic papers of 2016",including 2 papers published by the Academician PAN Jianwei's research group and 1 paper published by the Academician XIE Yi’s team.
